Peace: An Elusive Dream?

What is peace? Is it really hard to find? Peace, the cry of our brothers and sisters in some parts of Mindanao as the armed forces fight against the rebels. How can there be peace when   there is war? How can there be peace when there are famine and poverty all over the world; where people are killing one another in order to survive?
After the Super Typhoon Yolanda hit the Philippines, people ransacked some big malls to get food and things in order to survive. Where is peace? Can we still think of peace when our stomach is empty? As Charles Darwin’s principles, “Life is a Survival of the Fittest” taught us, that we cannot survive if we are not fit enough.
Is peace really true or is it just an elusive dream?  How can we say that there is peace when children are forced to work at an early age to feed their unfilled stomach? People are into gambling to seek for luck. Young ones turned to drugs. Minor girls are into cybersex in exchange of money. Our professionals and skilled workers prefer to work abroad than serve their countrymen because of less opportunities and low wage. Our public officials are into corruptions. Students are cheating in order to get high grades. Teachers are busy fill-upping their loan forms. Where is peace?
Peace is the freedom of war, tranquility, mental order, and the absence of violence. We can only attain peace when we keep ourselves in peace. That’s the time that we can bring peace to others. Even if the war is gone, if we, ourselves are not in peace then peace remains an elusive dream.
Let peace starts within us. We can be the channel of peace. We can make a difference. Let our generation be the inspiration for peace and unity all throughout the world. When someday we become successful in our own field, let’s abolish the mentality of the oppressed, eradicate corruption, and create an honest government which truly sees the good for the people. When we see others as friend and not as opponent, then maybe we can attain peace. When we sleep at night without worries at heart, when we walk proudly with our head high and when we can look others through their eyes, then peace is with us. When these times come, I can say that peace is not just an elusive dream. Peace can be with us, when we believe it.
